If you're a band looking to add backing tracks to your live show, the options can be confusing, funcitonally limited (there's one major app that won't even let you play back your own music!), expensive, or just too complex.
Having played in bands using backing tracks for years, we set out to build the perfect solution that does everything you need in the simplest way.
The app outputs FOUR channels of audio so you'll need a USB audio interface with at least 4 channels. Two channels are used for a stereo FOH feed, one normally contains a click for the drummer, and the final channel has a set of cues for the rest of the band.
To get started open the app, click + in the bottom left to make a new song, then double click on the track you want to add. Main should be sent to outputs 1 & 2, click to 3 and guide to 4. You can configure this in settings. Then just press play...
If you're new to working with tracks, then the video should take you through this in more detail.
This video walks you through some details of configuring My Playback, and demos some of the features in including voice cues, and My Lyric Book integration.
One of the key drivers to develop My Playback was an app that could do everything we needed, without the complexity and cost of things we didn't need. Being able to send video to a video wall or projector behind the band was something we couldn't do easily in other apps, but its simple in My Playback. It's also easy to add a midi track to sync with your lights or automate your effects and mix.
Here I step through my process for creating multitrack backing tracks, starting with a set of stems from Karaoke Versions, setting them up in Cubase, editing the guide track, exporting and loading into My Playback. Also check out Scott Uhl's excellent videos on how to configure backing tracks:.
