Adobe ColorBook Reader

ACBReader converts Adobe Color Book files (typically found under "Adobe Bridge/Presets/Color Books") to CLR files. That means you can take all those handy "standard" color lists like PANTONE, that you have available in your Adobe apps, and add them to the standard Mac Color picker.

Just Open the ACB file, and the work is done. The converted file gets stored in ~/Library/Colors, so next time you start up any mac app you'll have access to the converted list. Of course those original ACB lists are copyright of Adobe, Pantome, HKS, TruMatch and a bunch of other people, so make sure you're not breaking any license terms (and that means NO I can't just send you a converted list).

This app is based on the excellent job of decoding ACB's at Magnetq.com which did most of the hard work. I just coded it up. As this work isn't based on any official spec from adobe it might not work for every possible file. If you find an ACB that doesn't work then let me know and I'll look into it.

While I've done my best to preserve color fidelity, representing colors is a complex business. Remember that on screen versions of swatch colors are at best approximations, and if your screen isn't calibrated they might not even be close.

Hope you find this useful. If you do then you might want to consider sending me $10 (paypal to my ian@dctsystems.co.uk). If you're a graphic designer then just add $10 on to the bill for your next project. You won't miss it, and your client will be happy to pay an extra $10 for colours that match! You should also consider sending something to magnetiq.com for the work they did.
